Position Summary

Responsible for the development and implementation of a planned giving program and management of a select portfolio of principal gifts prospects/donors.


Job Responsibilities

• Identifies, cultivates, & solicits prospective donors for planned gifts. Maintains a portfolio of planned giving donors/prospects as well as select principal gift prospects. Staffs selected members of the Board of Fellows and senior administration/faculty.
• Manages Stimson Society (giving society for planned giving donors), including its Board of Fellows and Alumni co-chairs; Oversees communications to and tracking of Society members.
• Organizes and manages 'Plan Well, Live Well' educational webinars.
• Prepares charitable gift calculations for prospects and donors. Supplies necessary information to donors' attorneys and financial advisors.
• Serves as a resource to colleagues and donors on charitable giving issues and tax law; advises attorneys, financial advisors, and other professionals on gift acceptance policies.
• Advises and partners with gift officers and alumni staff on strategies involving planned gifts, as well as on individual planned gift solicitations.
• Collaborates with the Director of Philanthropy Engagement on direct marketing approaches to planned giving prospects/donors.
• Conducts planned giving presentations to donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and other medical college constituencies.
• Liaises with Cornell University and NYP colleagues in the pursuit and management of planned gifts for Weill Cornell.
• Staffs and manages the activities of the WCM Planned Giving Advisory Council, which is comprised of volunteers who are legal and financial advisors.
• Supervises one Planned Giving Officer and one (shared) Development Associate.

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in related field

Experience

• 7-10 years of experience and successful track record in planned giving.
• Proven record in closing planned gifts.
• Thorough knowledge of major gifts and planned giving concepts.
• Supervisory experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of and experience with all facets of the development field, especially major and/or capital fundraising.
• Comfort and ease working with mature donors.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and complex environment.
• Knowledge of, and experience with donor databases.
