The SC Supreme Court Commission on CLE and Specialization is seeking a full-time paralegal to join its team as an Accreditation Coordinator. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Accreditation Coordinator is responsible for reviewing applications for CLE course accreditation and awarding CLE credit as appropriate. Duties include processing the annual SC Bar members’ CLE compliance reports and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Pursuant to the Commission’s Regulations, award or deny CLE credit to attorney and judicial continuing education courses; determine the type of credit and number of hours to award qualifying courses
Maintain CLE course sponsor and course accreditation database
Be the point of contact with CLE course sponsor representatives; oral and written communication with these professionals
Review and process attorney and judicial applications for CLE teaching credit
Spearhead the annual invoicing of accredited CLE sponsors
Lead quality control processes related to the annual CLE compliance reports
Lead the review and processing of the annual attorney and judicial CLE compliance reports; notify attorneys and judges, as needed, for defective filing of their compliance reports
Perform other duties as assigned and assist with special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
The SC Supreme Court Commission on CLE and Specialization (Commission) is a small group of dedicated professionals who work together as a team in a highly effective and collegial fashion. The Commission is a regulatory body of the SC Supreme Court having general jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to mandatory continuing legal education (MCLE) for all South Carolina lawyers and judges. The Commission also has jurisdiction over all matters related to attorney specialization certification. The Commission is not a state government agency.
Subject to the continuing jurisdiction of the SC Supreme Court, the Commission directs a staff headed by an Executive Director. The Commission staff administers the MCLE program, accredits all CLE courses, maintains the individual MCLE records for all Bar members, processes and has oversight responsibility over the mandatory annual compliance reports filed by SC Bar members including the certified specialists, and the judiciary. Additionally, the Commission administers the SC Supreme Court’s legal specialization certification programs in each of its areas of specialization and has jurisdiction over all issues related to attorney specialization in South Carolina.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university is preferred. Paralegal degree/certification required. Experience in a law firm or in the legal/judicial administrative department of local, county, state or federal government is preferred but not required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Excellent professional communication skills and strong writing skills
Ability to analyze CLE course applications and related information
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
Computer skills that include all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe/Acrobat and SQL
