Salary will depend on years of experience. South Carolina Legal Services has a general benefits package. In addition to salary, SCLS provides 100% paid health, dental, vision, group life, long-term and short-term disability, accidental death, and dependent coverage. Additionally, SCLS will match 401(k) contributions up to 6%.
Staff attorneys provide a wide range of civil legal representation, advocacy, and outreach to low-income individuals. Though attorneys may work in other priority areas of law depending on client needs, civil litigation will primarily be in the areas of housing, consumer, education, federal income tax, elder, employment, family, probate, public benefits, and migrant farmworkers.

• Member of the SC Bar • Litigation and clinical experience preferred but not required if committed to: (a)Public interest/poverty law (b)Working with low-income, underserved, rural, diverse clients and client communities (c)Ability to collaborate effectively with other advocates and those agencies that serve the low-income community • Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedures, Rules of Evidence, Rules of the Family Court, and Rules of Appellate Procedure • Excellent relationship building, leadership, and research skills • Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills; bilingual skills are a plus, but not required • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint Online • Valid driver’s license and good driving record, as use of the firm’s vehicles may be required
