Job Title: Assistant Director, Iowa Lawyer Assistance Program Location: Des Moines Reports to: ILAP Board of Directors FLSA Status: Exempt Employment: Full-time General Statement of Duties: The ILAP Assistant Director assists the Executive Director in all aspects of the ILAP program subject to the approval of the ILAP Board of Directors. Due to the complexity of the community served by ILAP, the Assistant Director must maintain strong professional boundaries, a heightened sense of confidentiality and have the ability to follow clearly defined policies, procedures and expectations as set by the ILAP Board of Directors. Essential Functions of the Position: • Assist with development, implementation, and management of comprehensive assistance programs for lawyers, judges, law students, and other legal professionals dealing with mental health, substance use, stress, burnout, and other personal or professional challenges. • Assist with supervision of volunteers and peer support networks where applicable. • Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and professional standards. • Assist with carrying out program operations, including but not limited to: office operations, outreach to affected attorneys and judges, triaging, fielding and staffing requests for assistance for behavioral health and career-related and professional issues. • Assist with development of collaboration with mental health professionals, treatment centers and recovery organizations. • Participation in national and other LAP networks to share best practices and remain informed about trends. Minimum qualifications: 1. LISW or LMHC with active Iowa licensure in mental health, social work or equivalent in good standing. 2. Minimum 2 years of work experience as a professional in clinical or behavioral health as a program coordinator, therapist or staff professional in a similar program. 3. The ability to demonstrate leadership, program management, and strategic planning experience. 4. A strong understanding of substance abuse and mental health issues. 5. A strong understanding of confidentiality principles and ethical guidelines in assistance programs. 6. Exceptional communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. 7. Sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by legal professionals. 8. While not a requirement for application, applicants who are currently in recovery and involved in ongoing recovery programming are preferred.
Working Conditions: • Hybrid or in-office depending on organizational policy. • Some travel required for outreach and conferences and in person meetings with attorneys, judges and law firms across the State of Iowa who have reached out. • Availability for crisis response or urgent consultations may be necessary.Proposed job description for ILAP Assistant Director
