Senior Vice President, General Counsel
Overview: Reporting to the Chairman and CEO of Schnitzer, the General Counsel is the chief legal officer responsible for directing all legal activities of the Company. The General Counsel is also a key business partner to the executive management team and acts as Corporate Secretary of the Board of Directors. S/he will be expected to contribute to the management of the Company, bringing to bear both legal and business expertise deriving from a thorough understanding of the Company’s operations and strategic goals.

Location: US headquarters are located in Portland, OR. A hybrid remote work arrangement is possible but the individual should reside in or re-locate to Northern California, including San Francisco, the Greater Oakland area, and Silicon Valley or Seattle, WA.
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least 20 years of legal experience and a deep background handling corporate and public company governance and compliance matters, environmental and other regulatory matters, M&A, business law, including international, and general litigation matters. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated strong leadership skills and management experience as well as a proven track record of effectively handling a company’s global legal function. In-house experience is required, ideally serving as General Counsel of a similar-sized or larger publicly-held company. Exposure to and experience working in an industry where environmental issues are prevalent is a strong plus.
