The position is responsible for:
â— Providing advice, counsel and representation to eligible students in areas of landlord/tenant, consumer law, creditor/debtor/collection/ employment and administrative law;
â— Meet, counsel, represent and advise students, analyze and determine best course of action. Prepare all necessary legal documentation, pleadings, discovery documents and memorandum for court. When appropriate prepare for and participate in appellate process and in administrative hearings. Appear in court.
â—Assist in law-related educational programs within the University and University community as well as providing in-service training;
â—Participation in UMN and Office for Student Affairs events and committees
â—Performing administrative duties and outreach activities as assigned by the director.
Applicants will have knowledge and or experience in areas of landlord/tenant, consumer law, creditor/debtor/collection/ employment and administrative law; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of privilege and a commitment to advancing equity and diversity; and experience addressing unique needs of international students as well as strong understanding of a university legal services setting.
Position Class: This position is in the professional/administrative personnel class, and reports to the Director of Student Legal Service. The position is renewable annually at the discretion of the Director.

Essential Qualifications: J.D. Degree, admission and good standing to practice law in the state of Minnesota; experience dependent on needs of unit, applicants will demonstrate proficiency in the practice of law providing legal representation to individual clients; experience and aptitude relative to technology in law office and legal context; strong legal writing and advocacy skills. Applicants must be able to appear in courts in the seven-county metropolitan area. Demonstrated commitment to advancing the principles of equity and diversity.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with students, specifically in a college or university setting; ability to write and design educational materials employing a variety of media, experience serving clients of color, international/immigrant communities, first generation college students, individuals with disabilities and the LGBTQIA community; and experience with case management systems/software.
