The Role
We are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney with at least 3 years of experience to manage a diverse caseload with a heavy focus on removal defense and crimmigration. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who isn't afraid of the courtroom and understands the life-altering stakes of immigration proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
Represent clients in Removal Proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR).
Provide expert crimmigration analysis, advising clients and criminal defense counsel on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.
Prepare and file complex applications with USCIS, including waivers of inadmissibility, adjustment of status, and naturalization.
Draft motions, briefs, and appeals for the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and federal courts.
Conduct initial consultations to evaluate legal options and develop case strategies.
Qualifications
Education:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Bar Admission: Active member in good standing of a State Bar (New York preferred). Bar admission in multiple states is a plus.
Experience:Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing immigration law including experience litigating cases before the Immigration Court. Proven track record in immigration law, specifically regarding:
Removal Defense: Mastery of 42B, asylum, and withholding of removal.
Crimmigration: Deep understanding of the "categorical approach" and post-conviction relief.
USCIS Procedures: Success with family-based petitions and complex waivers.
Language Skills: Bilingual is highly preferred given our client base.
Traits: Outstanding communication, organizational, planning, and time management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as written and oral advocacy skills. Exceptional writing skills, trial presence, and the ability to manage a high-volume docket with attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with individuals from varying backgrounds. Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities effectively. A commitment to providing high-quality legal representation and achieving positive outcomes for clients.
