Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel for Michigan Medicine, this role will provide counsel and support to the University's clinical enterprise, inclusive of its fully integrated academic medical center, its medical school, and its state-wide clinical network ("Michigan Medicine"), as well as periodically advise the University's other schools, colleges, and administrative areas on health care regulatory matters. The attorney who fills this role must be able to work independently on a wide range of complex and novel issues, with a particular focus on regulatory matters. This role will work closely with senior leadership of Michigan Medicine and support the strategic goals of the organization. The role will be tailored to the unique qualifications and experiences of the selected candidate as those talents relate to client needs and other OGC team members' areas of expertise and workloads.
A minimum of four (4) years' experience providing legal advice on health care matters.
Experience with healthcare regulatory matters, particularly the intersection of legal and clinical risk.
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple, complex, often time-sensitive assignments simultaneously and with a high degree of organization and effectiveness.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and clients, both internal and external.
Demonstrated ability to listen and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations.

Law degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to the State Bar of Michigan Bar or eligibility for immediate admission.
Significant experience providing analysis and support to health system clinical risk departments and clinical leaders in order to advance safe, legally compliant, and patient centered care across the organization.
Significant experience assessing and advising on Medicare conditions of participation for hospitals.
Experience advising on clinical research matters.
Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts for a health system.
Experience working with public entities, academic medical centers, and non-profit, tax-exempt entities.
Experience applying the Michigan Public Health and Mental Health Code.
